Perfluorohexanone (1230) fire extinguishing device

PRODUCT DETAILS

Overview
Perfluorohexanone, an important Halon fire suppression agent alternative, is a fluoroketone compound. It is a clear, colorless, and odorless liquid, supercharged with nitrogen, and stored in high-pressure cylinders as part of a fire suppression system. Its chemical structure is identical to 3M's NOVEC 1230 fire suppression fluid. Typical applications include fire protection for computer rooms, data centers, aviation, ships, vehicles, libraries, and oil and natural gas production facilities.

One of the standout features of Perfluorohexanone as a fire extinguishing agent is its excellent environmental performance. Its Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) is 0, Global Warming Potential (GWP) is 1, and Atmospheric Lifetime (in years) is 0.014 (5 days). These characteristics make it a long-term and sustainable alternative to Halon (HALON), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and Perfluorocarbons (PFCs).

Perfluorohexanone is a liquid at room temperature and has a heat of vaporization only 1/25th that of water, while its vapor pressure is 25 times that of water. These properties make it easy to vaporize and exist in a gaseous state. The extinguishing effect relies primarily on heat absorption. In terms of environmental protection, it is truly a "green" and environmentally-friendly fire suppression agent.

With a fire suppression concentration of 4-6%, Perfluorohexanone offers a relatively high safety margin, making it safer for human exposure during use. Unlike other Halon alternatives that require pressurized storage containers, Perfluorohexanone can be safely stored and transported at normal pressure in ordinary containers, within a wide temperature range (including air transport), as it is not classified as a hazardous material. However, it has a boiling point of 48-49°C, and as an extinguishing agent, its use is somewhat limited. It is suitable for replacing Halon 1211 in fire extinguishers or used in total flooding systems and localized application systems for Class B fire protection.

Fire Suppression Principle

Perfluorohexanone extinguishes fires through rapid vaporization and heat absorption, cooling and suppressing the fire. After discharge, it is colorless, clean, and has high insulation properties, making it an excellent green and environmentally friendly fire suppression agent. It does not contaminate the protected area, nor will it cause damage to financial assets or precision equipment.

Application Scope

This agent is effective against Class A, B, and C fires. It is non-corrosive to common metals and has excellent insulation properties, meaning it will not damage electronic components or circuits, and will not cause secondary damage. When combined with a temperature-sensitive self-activated fire suppression system, it can be used in data processing centers, electronic control centers, high-precision equipment, communication base stations, substations, electrical grids, museums, archives, and other sensitive environments.
